Museum master class as an interactive method of teaching secondary education students

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to highlight the pedagogical potential of museum workshops, on the example of the activities of the scientific and exhibition department of ethnography and folk crafts of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore; to demonstrate the use of interactive classes as an effective method of teaching secondary school students in the context of developing creative abilities, gaining new knowledge and acquiring practical skills.

The main methods of the study were observation and analysis, which involved studying the experience of the Department of Ethnography and Folk Crafts of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore with secondary school students and evaluating its effectiveness for the pedagogical process.

As a result of studying the experience of the Department of Ethnography and Folk Crafts of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore in conducting master classes in the context of museum work, in particular with ethnographic monuments, the article demonstrates the involvement of secondary school students in learning about the cultural heritage of Ukraine and creating their own cultural and artistic works. Different types of master classes organized by the museum's researchers are analyzed. The experience of cooperation with teachers, involvement of folk artists as carriers of the "living" tradition is characterized. The possibility of using master classes as elements of non-formal and informal education, acquiring the necessary soft-skills for the comprehensive development of the individual is indicated. 

The article also examines effective examples of holding multithematic master classes for schoolchildren as an independent museum event and in the context of comprehensive programs of the Volyn Museum of Local Lore aimed at actualizing regional and national history and culture.

Conclusions. The article shows the prospects of museum master classes for providing a practical component in the educational process, acquiring new knowledge, skills and abilities by secondary school students.
