Improving accentual competence of higher education students in the process of studying the discipline «Ukrainian language for professional purposes»

In the process of studying the discipline «Ukrainian language for professional purposes», higher education students need to master thorough theoretical knowledge about stress in the Ukrainian language, the correct stressing of words in the modern Ukrainian literary language, accentuation norms of the Ukrainian language, and improve their accentuation skills during oral professional communication. The problem of improving the accentuation competence of future specialists is relevant, because a necessary condition for perfect professional speech is the correct accentuation of all words. The purpose of the article is to highlight the specifics of improving accentual competence of higher education students in the process of studying the discipline «Ukrainian language for professional purposes». The following methods were used in the work: analysis of scientific literature and pedagogical experience, synthesis. The results of the study demonstrated that in order to improve accentual competence, higher education students need to deepen their knowledge of Ukrainian accentology, master the accentual norms of the modern Ukrainian literary language, and develop the ability to correctly emphasize all words of the modern Ukrainian literary language, to develop skills in the unmistakable pronunciation of professionalisms – words and terms that will be used in their future professional environment. In the language of each professional group, there are professionalisms, the mastery of which correct pronunciation is mandatory for higher education applicants. It was found that in the educational process it is necessary to use such exercises that will contribute to the development in future specialists of the skills of correctly emphasizing all words of the modern Ukrainian literary language, developing skills of unmistakable accentuation of professionalisms and terms of the chosen profession. It was determined that accentual competence is part of the speech professional competence of all specialists. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that a system of exercises has been developed that helps to improve accentual skills among higher education students. Conclusions. To improve the accentuation competence of higher education students, it is necessary to familiarize them with thorough theoretical knowledge about the accentuation norms of the modern Ukrainian literary language, the correct accentuation of professionalisms, terms, etc. It is necessary to use exercises that will help improve the accentuation skills of future specialists. After all, as practical experience shows, exercises play a very important role in improving the skills of higher education students in correctly emphasizing words during oral professional communication. Compliance by specialists with the accentuation norms of the modern Ukrainian literary language is one of the important indicators of their speech culture.
