Abstract

The article examines volunteer activity as an important factor in the professional development of youth and the growth of civil society in the context of social transformations. Volunteering is viewed as a form of non-formal education that promotes the development of leadership qualities, empathy, communication skills, and the ability to self-organize. The paper outlines prospects for the development of volunteer mechanisms in times of war and post-crisis recovery, emphasizing the relevance of the topic in the context of fostering democratic values and social responsibility. The purpose of the article is to analyze volunteer activity as a component of the civic sphere, based on modern concepts of solidarity and democratic integration. Volunteering is defined as voluntary, unpaid, socially-oriented activity of global importance for the development of skills, civic participation, and good governance. The Ukrainian volunteer movement, intensified by current events, has demonstrated unique mobilization power in response to institutional deficiencies. It has not only supported the military and internally displaced persons but also contributed to the professional development of youth. Methods. The study uses theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis, generalization), empirical methods (observation, questionnaires, interviews), as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis. Results. Volunteering is considered a tool for strengthening democracy and fostering students’ professional development, particularly in socio-psychological specializations. Participation in volunteer programs contributes to the development of key personal qualities and practical skills, enhancing competitiveness in the labor market. Volunteer activity in higher education institutions is gaining educational significance, encompassing a wide range of areas—from social assistance to environmental initiatives. Its European integration value highlights the need for an innovative approach to student volunteering as part of training for professionals in the socionomic sphere. Conclusions. Student volunteering is an educational innovation and a strategic resource for the development of civil society, whose effectiveness is ensured through integration into the educational process, consideration of regional specificities, and appropriate regulatory and legal support.
