Abstract

The article explores the phenomenon of communicative competence. Its significance in the professional activity of a psychologist is revealed, with an emphasis on why it is a vital skill for students pursuing this specialty. The necessary conditions for the development of communication skills are outlined. Correlational analysis is used to examine the relationships between various personality factors and communicative ability.

Communication plays a key role in the professional work of a psychologist. Although interaction is often perceived as something natural and effortless, in practice, it can be quite complex and challenging for many. In today’s rapidly changing world, marked by high stress levels and increasing psychological demands, effective communication is more essential than ever. This is especially true for psychologists, whose ability to establish productive contact with clients, maintain communication, and create a trusting atmosphere is crucial for effective counseling and psychocorrection.

The relevance of developing communication skills among future psychologists increases under conditions of war, educational reforms, social pressure, and constant informational overload — all of which influence the style and quality of interpersonal communication. At the same time, psychology students often face communication difficulties: they may struggle to ask for help, build effective interactions with teachers, or maintain constructive relationships with peers.

The formation and development level of communicative skills are influenced by a number of factors, including personal traits, emotional intelligence, prior social experience, and the learning environment. Thus, there is a growing need to study how widespread the problem of underdeveloped communication skills is among psychology students and to search for effective methods to enhance them. These skills play a decisive role in the future professional realization of specialists, enabling them to perform their duties effectively, build relationships with clients and colleagues, avoid professional burnout, and adapt to complex life and work situations.
