Abstract

The article explores the content, key directions, forms, and methods of sports and patriotic education of students in general secondary education institutions. The emphasis is placed on the importance of developing civic consciousness, national identity, and a sense of responsibility for the destiny of the Motherland through engaging students in physical education and sports.

Drawing on the analysis of scientific literature and current educational concepts, the author offers a definition of ‘sports and patriotic education’ as a purposeful pedagogical process implemented within the educational environment through physical culture, sports, and tourism, aimed at nurturing patriotic citizens.

The article outlines key strategies for implementing sports and patriotic education, including: - integration of patriotic content into physical education lessons; - active involvement of all educational stakeholders – teachers, parents, and community members; - consistent use of various forms and methods of educational work; - development of students' civic engagement through participation in socially significant initiatives; - study of national and cultural heritage and use of national symbols.

The article presents a general classification and detailed descriptions of effective forms and methods of sports and patriotic education, including military-themed sports games, thematic lessons, festivals, weeks of physical culture and sports, sports holidays, meetings with veterans and athletes, participation in flash mobs, charity marathons, relay races, quests, integrated lessons, tourist trips, folklore festivals, etc. All these forms contribute not only to the physical development of students, but also to the formation of national identity, collectivism, emotional stability, and civic responsibility.

The findings are of practical significance for educators, education organisers, physical education teachers, students of pedagogical programmes, and all stakeholders involved in the development of patriotic education in modern schools.
