The article is devoted to the study of the role of painting, drawing, and compositional principles in the formation of professional competencies of future designers and the fostering of national consciousness in the context of ethno-design. The aim of the study is to substantiate the significance of classical artistic disciplines in the professional training of students majoring in graphic design and to analyze their potential as instruments for shaping visual identity. Particular attention is given to the integration of ethnocultural values into the educational process and to assessing their impact on the development of contemporary design education. The research methodology is grounded in systemic, cultural, and art-historical approaches. Methods of comparative analysis were employed to contrast traditional and modern approaches to the formation of artistic culture; structural and compositional analysis was applied to identify patterns in the organization of graphic language; and a sociocultural approach was used to determine the role of ethno-design in transmitting national values and ensuring cultural continuity. The findings demonstrate that the integration of painting, drawing, and compositional principles into design education enhances students’ ability to engage with the cultural code of the nation and to reinterpret it through contemporary visual means. It is established that ethno-design not only preserves authentic traditions but also stimulates the development of creative reflection, critical thinking, and awareness of the interconnection between the local cultural context and global trends in visual communication. The conclusions emphasize that the use of ethnic design as a didactic tool combines aesthetic and educational functions in the professional training of graphic designers. Painting, drawing, and compositional patterns serve as the basis for creating a nationally oriented design practice capable of combining tradition and innovation and forming a responsible attitude toward cultural heritage.Downloads
