Foreign countries experience in forming future aviation personnel’s professional and intercultural competences

Abstract

The article considers the process of integrating foreign language professional and intercultural competences while teaching Aviation English in aviation institutions in foreign countries. Purpose: the study of constructive experience of foreign aviation institutions in integrating foreign language professional and intercultural competences during the teaching of aviation English to prepare their graduates for work in international companies and to enhance competitiveness in the international labor market. Methods: analysis of scientific literature, comparison, systematization. Results: The article insists that the process of formation of professional and intercultural competences should be well prepared, and the methodology of implementation should be based on the study of previous researches of other scientists and practitioners. Attention is focused on the fact that such training is extremely important for such educational institutions the graduates of which receive a profession that involves working in a multicultural environment. Important in this process is familiarization with other cultures, the formation of a tolerant attitude toward these cultures, preparation for socialization to life in these cultures if necessary. The need to support students’ interest in studying cultural material is emphasized, which can be achieved through a carefully developed teaching methodology (class division into three stages and the use of tasks appropriate to each stage, selection of various educational materials with a large number of authentic materials, such as maps, documents etc.). A successful combination of linguistic and cultural material requires the development of textbooks and teaching materials for appropriate support of classes.
