Abstract

The purpose of the article was to highlight the main aspects of the problem of studying classical European composers in North American schools, particularly in Canada and the USA. To achieve this goal, research methods were used, such as analysis of scientific works of domestic and foreign authors, synthesis of the received information to form a general idea about the state of the researched issue, generalization. In the course of the research, it was found that classical music has a significant impact on the formation of musical and aesthetic culture of students, their spiritual and moral development, and on other aspects (development of self-expression, discipline, perseverance, teamwork skills). Analyzing the history of the development and formation of European classical music, it was determined that it did not immediately gain a foothold in America - this happened only at the beginning of the 20th century. The key problems of studying classical European composers in North American schools are the low priority in the curriculum, cultural priorities and the orientation of professional training of teachers to other aspects of musical art. For most of history, black Americans in North America have been denied the right to attend classical music concerts and receive formal music education. In this regard, a separate reason for the exclusion of European classical music from the educational process in North American schools is the understanding of this music as a symbol of racism. The conclusion states that the main problem with the study of classical European composers in schools in North America, including Canada and the USA, is the lack of familiarity of teachers and students with European musical traditions. This constitutes a serious gap in the musical culture of these countries, since classical music significantly affects the development of musical and aesthetic preferences and contributes to the spiritual and moral development of the younger generation. The study of classical European composers in North American schools is important both to enrich the cultural experience of learners and to support music education in a global context. Future research may be aimed at substantiating the importance of including classical European music in the educational programs of various countries around the world.
