The Role of Higher Education in Ukraine's Integration into the European Educational Space

Abstract

Ukraine has excellent scientific potential, in accordance with European EU standards, more than 70% of the population has a higher education, but, despite this, the resource and intellectual potential of national higher education is not fully used by society and the economy. The purpose of the work is to determine the essence and role of higher education in modern society in the context of Ukraine's integration into the European educational space. The history of the formation and development of the European educational space in its current form is also given. In the course of the research, the key requirements of the Bologna Declaration, which are mandatory for all participants, were highlighted. Ukraine has not yet reached the reference level of higher education, because it has certain problematic aspects, namely: a high percentage of migration of the working population and youth; lack of a sense of security, which makes it impossible to receive quality education in proper conditions; low motivation of students of higher education and teachers to provide and receive knowledge, etc. The graphic method and the method of systematization of information were used in the article. Statistics are provided regarding the number of students from Ukraine in higher education institutions in Poland. The main reason why Ukrainian education seekers choose European institutions of higher education is to get out of their own comfort zone, to get a diploma from a European university, which ultimately gives them the opportunity to find more promising types of work with a decent salary. In view of the above-mentioned problems, measures were proposed, the purpose of which is to speed up the process of Ukraine's integration into the European educational space. Such a set of measures concerns  the levels of higher education, educational policy in general, research, postgraduate and continuing education, and if implemented effectively, will be able to launch integration processes in the short term. Thus, effective reform of the national higher education system will help stabilize the education sector in Ukraine and expand the scope of scientific interaction and cooperation.
