Supporting student research in the context of teacher professional development

Abstract: The relevance of this article stems from the fact that guiding students' research is an important component of the professional development of modern teachers. In the context of educational reform and the introduction of a competency-based approach, teachers must possess research methodology, academic writing skills, standards of academic integrity, and the ability to plan and organize project activities. Working on student research stimulates teachers to engage in continuous self-development, interdisciplinary thinking, and improvement of their own professional competencies, which makes this topic relevant and timely in the context of modern schools. Objective of the article is to consider the main vectors of teacher professional development in the process of supervising the scientific research of students. The following theoretical and empirical scientific methods were used in the study: analysis of scientific and methodological literature; analysis of approaches to organizing student research; a systematic approach to studying teacher professional development; generalization of pedagogical experience; logical generalization and theoretical modeling. The results are as follows: scientific and pedagogical approaches to the problem of teacher professional development and its role in organizing student research were analyzed; the relationship between student research activities and teacher professional self-realization was determined; the vectors of teacher professional development in the process of guiding the scientific research of students have been considered; the practical experience of teachers in organizing and supporting student scientific work in the context of their professional development has been generalized. Conclusions. It is substantiated that guiding students' scientific research serves as a form of professional self-education for teachers. It contributes to the renewal of knowledge, the expansion of subject competence, the improvement of scientific literacy, and the formation of a teacher's position as a researcher who is constantly developing alongside their students. The process of supervising students' scientific research is a multidimensional phenomenon for the professional development of teachers, integrating scientific, methodological, creative, communicative, and other aspects of their activities.Downloads
