Abstract

Actuality. Present situation in Ukraine under the condition of the war with Russia caused increase of interest to learning foreign languages. Therefore teaching English for specific purposes for the students majoring in History is the part of the general state programme for professional training in Humanities. The article is focused at the use of person oriented teaching on the basis of multi-level approach. It implies three-level training of students within their academic groups. It is quite necessary because of different school training of students in foreign languages. The objective of the article is to explore the training peculiarities of the students, future historians, in ESP on the example of the topic “Milestones of Ukrainian History”. The article analyzed the multi-level approach in the students’ using phonetic, lexical and grammar skills while learning this unit. The authors paid attention not only to various levels of learning material but also they mentioned the possibility to change a task level in case of improving knowledge at some stage of learning a foreign language. The students should make a choice by themselves taking into account the confidence in their knowledge. The used methods of research are the following: theoretical: analysis, synthesis, systematization; empirical: pedagogical observation of the level of the students’ mastering the material and their abilities to use their knowledge; analysis of their academic achievements; conversation, questionnaire; prognostic: for creating recommendations on forming readiness to use a foreign language in the professional activity, ability to use received skills in practice. The main results. The authors explored peculiarities of teaching future historians with the use of multi-level approach and analyzed the ways of mastering various skills. The expediency to use this technology in teaching ESP has been proved, since students get an opportunity to learn material according to their mental and psycho-physical peculiarities. Conclusion. The analyzed technology is effective and necessary therefore its implementation into training students of various majors is methodically correct and expedient.
