The article presents the results of an experimental study of the effectiveness of a structural-functional model for forming the environmental culture of future technology teachers in the process of professional training. The aim of the study was to theoretically substantiate and experimentally test a system of pedagogical conditions that ensure an increase in the level of environmental culture among students majoring in 014 ‘Secondary Education (Labour Training and Technology)’. The experiment was conducted at four higher education institutions that provide training for specialists in the field of technology. Control and experimental groups were involved in the study, which were selected on the basis of a comparison of the initial levels of environmental culture among students. The ascertaining stage showed no statistically significant differences between the groups, which confirmed the correctness of their formation. The research methodology included questionnaires, pedagogical testing, expert assessment, observation, analysis of academic achievements and student participation in practice-oriented environmental projects. The formative stage was aimed at testing the model, which provided for the greening of the content of professional training, the introduction of a project-based approach, the activation of research activities, and the use of digital technologies in the educational process. The results obtained indicate a significant increase in the level of environmental culture among students in the experimental groups compared to the control groups. The calculated efficiency coefficient (K =1,94) confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed model and the pedagogical conditions for its implementation. Statistical confirmation of the significance of the differences proved that the recorded changes were not accidental. The data presented in the article allow us to identify promising directions for further improvement of the environmental component of professional training of future technology teachers.
