Abstract

The modern pace of life creates a need for motivation to engage in systematic physical activity and for young people to take responsibility for their own health. The purpose of the study is to compare the effectiveness of traditional and innovative approaches to organizing independent student work in physical education in higher education institutions and to determine their impact on the development of physical skills, motivation, and students' overall physical activity. Methods. The study used theoretical methods of analysis, synthesis, and abstraction, as well as inductive and deductive approaches, along with empirical methods of observation and description. Results. The key methods and forms of organizing studentsʼ independent work in physical education at higher education institutions were analyzed. It was found that the traditional approach involves performing physical exercises according to the teacherʼs methodological instructions, keeping a physical activity diary and independent preparation for credit standards. The innovative approach, in turn, includes the use of online platforms and mobile applications, individual physical activity programs, project work (fitness projects and challenges), and self-monitoring using fitness trackers. Tools and technologies that are actively implemented to organize studentsʼ independent work were studied. Among them, mobile applications for training (MyFitnessPal, Nike Training Club), online platforms for physical education (Fitness Blender, PE with Joe), fitness trackers (Fitbit, Garmin) and VR/AR training were highlighted. It was found that innovative methods, thanks to a personalized approach, the use of digital technologies and interactive platforms, significantly increase the interest and effectiveness of students' independent work, as well as improve the results of physical development compared to traditional approaches, which often do not take into account the individual needs of applicants. Conclusions. The introduction of innovative approaches to organizing studentsʼ independent work in physical education is of great importance for increasing the effectiveness of the educational process, fostering young peopleʼs active involvement in physical education and health, developing their self-control skills, and fostering a stable motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle.
