Abstract. The purpose of the article is to provide a theoretical justification for the competency-based paradigm of professional training for master's degree graduates in law and to define its role in the modernization of the higher legal educational system. This is specified in the tasks of scientific research: to analyze modern approaches to the professional training of master's degree graduates in law; to characterize the phenomenon of professional competence of master's degree graduates in law and to present the author's interpretation of this concept as the expected result of targeted professional training of future lawyers. To solve the set tasks, the following methods have been used: analysis, synthesis, generalization, and systematization of scientific sources on the research problem. It has been established that the professional competence of master's degree graduates in law is a complex integral formation that combines cognitive, activity-related, and personal-value components and is formed in the process of purposeful professional training. The author's interpretation of professional competence allows us to consider it as the expected result of the educational process, manifested in the readiness of law graduates to engage in professional activities in the field of legal regulation of social relations, the ability to continuously develop professionally, and adherence to ethical standards of legal practice. The authors have concluded that, at the present stage of higher education development, the professional training of master's degree students in law is based on a combination of traditional and innovative educational approaches, among which the competency-based approach plays a key role. Its focus is not only on future lawyers mastering a system of professional knowledge, but also on developing the ability to act effectively in situations of professional uncertainty, make informed legal decisions, communicate professionally, and be accountable for the results of their own activities. The application of this approach is consistent with current requirements for legal practice and general trends in higher education. The introduction of a competency-based paradigm into the professional training system for master's degrees in law is an important factor in its modernization, as it contributes to the alignment of educational outcomes with the demands of legal practice and the needs of society.Downloads
