Teaching Medical Terminology in the Ukrainian Language with an Interdisciplinary Approach

The aim of the article is to explain the peculiarities of implementation of interdisciplinary approach within the process of teaching Ukrainian medical terminology and outline its advantages. The main is oriented towards the achievement of the following objectives; determination of the notion of interdisciplinary approach; explanation of the principles of its implementation; analysis of content and methodical components of the discipline “Ukrainian language for professional purposes”; presentation of pedagogical strategies to realize the interdisciplinary approach to learning medical terminology. To achieve the aim and the objectives the following theoretical research methods were used: theoretical review of pedagogical and philological literature, analysis and synthesis of scientific outcomes, generalization, and comparative analysis of understanding the principles of implementation of interdisciplinary approach within the process of teaching Ukrainian medical terminology. The research resulted in explanation of the dimensions of interdisciplinarity of the educational process and the principles of implementation of interdisciplinary approach. It was proved that implementation of interdisciplinary approach to teaching Ukrainian medical terminology requires specific pedagogical strategies to ensure its efficiency. They include: cooperation between departments, special training of teachers, creation of positive educational environment. the authors conducted the detailed analysis of advantages of implementation of interdisciplinary approach within the process of teaching of Ukrainian medical terminology. Further studies should concern the analysis of theoretical and practical principles of creation of interdisciplinary curriculum on the discipline “Ukrainian language for professional purposes” for medical students that will consider selective educational components, and also the substantiation of interdisciplinary approach to teaching of Ukrainian medical terminology in the conditions of distance learning.
