The Use of the Case Method in Training Law Students to Develop Soft Skills

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of the study is to provide a theoretical justification and analysis of the possibilities of using the case method in the training of law students for the development of soft skills as an essential component of professional competence in modern legal education. In the context of the transformation of higher education and increasing requirements for professional training of legal specialists, there is a growing need to implement innovative teaching methods that contribute not only to the acquisition of professional knowledge but also to the development of universal competencies. The research is based on a combination of theoretical methods, including analysis and synthesis of scientific literature, systematization and generalization of modern approaches to the development of soft skills in legal education. A comparative analysis of international educational practices was also conducted to determine the main trends in the application of the case method in the training of future lawyers. The article reveals the essence of the case method as an innovative educational technology based on the analysis of real or simulated professional situations. It is established that the use of case studies contributes to the development of critical thinking, communication skills, legal reasoning, and the ability to make informed decisions. Furthermore, case-based learning increases students’ motivation and supports the formation of practice-oriented competencies. The study demonstrates that the case method is an effective tool for developing soft skills among law students. The integration of case-based learning into legal education improves the quality of professional training and prepares future lawyers for solving complex legal problems in professional practice.
