Abstract

The purpose of the study is to provide a theoretical and practical justification for the impact of empirical data analysis methods on the development of a psychologist’s research competence. The article examines the mechanisms of transforming learning skills into the capacity for evidence-based thinking, critical analysis, and responsible digital-analytical activity in professional practice. The methodological framework of the research consists of the analysis and synthesis of contemporary scientific sources, a comparative study of approaches to psychologists’ professional training, and the generalization of didactic and methodological principles. Particular attention is paid to the structural-functional modeling of professional competence components formed through the mastery of mathematical methods. The research findings indicate that the design of course content should be based on solving professional psychological tasks rather than the reproductive replication of computational algorithms. These tasks include testing scientific hypotheses, evaluating data objectivity, meaningfully interpreting statistical indicators, and making informed choices regarding analytical generalization strategies. The analysis demonstrates that the professional orientation of the course significantly enhances students’ intrinsic motivation. This is achieved by shifting the focus: mathematical tools cease to be perceived as objects of formal memorization and become a necessary means of substantiating the objectivity of conclusions. Special attention is given to the issue of cognitive dissonance arising from the discrepancy between the abstract-logical nature of statistical methods and the verbal-interpretative thinking style of future psychologists. A synthesis of current research confirms that overcoming statistical anxiety and fostering academic self-efficacy directly affects the quality of mastering analytical procedures, the readiness to work with numerical data, and the ability to integrate them into psychological explanations of phenomena. The study also emphasizes that the mathematical competence of a future psychologist is closely linked to digital literacy, as data processing, visualization, and the use of statistical software and online research platforms are integral to the modern educational and professional environment. The conclusions substantiate that the discipline Mathematical Methods in Psychological Research plays a system-forming role in the professional training of future psychologists, as it integrates an evidence-based approach, analytical culture, digital adaptability, and academic integrity. Such integrated training develops a specialist capable of processing psychological information objectively, reasonably, and methodologically correctly.
