The study’s relevance is driven by the rapid digitalization of education and the growing need to implement innovative technologies that enhance the effectiveness of teaching natural science disciplines. Traditional teaching approaches do not always provide sufficient visualization and depth of understanding of complex natural processes, necessitating the search for new didactic solutions. In this context, virtual reality (VR) emerges as a promising tool that combines immersion, interactivity, and advanced capabilities for modeling educational environments. The objective of the article is to provide a theoretical justification and systematization of approaches to the use of VR in teaching natural sciences, and to determine its impact on learning outcomes. Methods. The methodological framework of the study includes the analysis and generalization of scientific sources, comparative analysis of pedagogical practices, and a structural-functional approach to modeling educational processes. Results. The study identifies and systematizes the educational potential of VR in teaching natural sciences, taking into account the specific content of the subject and its didactic objectives. Pedagogical models of VR integration into the educational process (demonstration-based, interactive, and research-oriented) are analyzed, and their characteristics, levels of student engagement, and didactic effectiveness are determined. A model of VR impact on cognitive activity, the formation of subject-specific competencies, and the overall quality of learning is substantiated. It is established that the effectiveness of VR applications depends on learners’ interaction with the virtual environment and their level of cognitive engagement. Conclusions. The use of VR contributes to improving the quality of education by deepening the understanding of complex processes, enhancing learning activity, and fostering stable subject-specific competencies. The proposed approach enables VR to be considered an integrated element of a modern pedagogical system aimed at achieving high-quality educational outcomes. Prospects for further research are associated with the empirical validation of the proposed models, as well as the development of methodological recommendations for their adaptation to various educational contexts.
