Abstract

The article analyzes the impact of the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, particularly tools such as ChatGPT, on the transformation of the educational process in higher education institutions. It has been established that the active implementation of generative systems expands learning opportunities and digital support for educational activities; however, it simultaneously highlights a range of challenges in academic integrity, specifically regarding the autonomy of student work, the determination of authorship, and the correct use of digital resources. The purpose of the article is to analyze the impact of using ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligence systems on compliance with the principles of academic integrity in higher education institutions, to identify the main risks and opportunities associated with their application in the educational process, and to outline approaches to forming effective policies and practices for ensuring academic integrity in the context of the digital transformation of education. The methodological basis of the study consists of the analysis and synthesis of scientific sources, comparative analysis, systematization and generalization of scientific approaches, as well as structural-functional analysis applied to assess the impact of generative artificial intelligence on adherence to academic integrity principles in higher education. As a result of the study, it was found that the use of ChatGPT creates both new learning opportunities (increased accessibility of information, support for students’ independent work) and significant risks of academic integrity violations, including plagiarism and unauthorized assistance. A lack of preparedness in many educational institutions to effectively regulate the use of such technologies was identified. At the same time, it was determined that the implementation of clear policies, the development of digital literacy, and the reorientation of assessment methods can mitigate these risks. The conclusions state that the proliferation of ChatGPT and other generative AI systems necessitates a rethinking of traditional approaches to ensuring academic integrity in higher education institutions. The latter must adapt educational strategies, implement new regulatory frameworks, and foster a culture of responsible AI use. Maintaining a balance between innovation and ethical standards is a crucial factor in preserving the quality of higher education.
