Abstract

The main goal of the article is to study the ideas of labor education of Western European enlighteners in order to analyze their pedagogical potential for improving the quality of the educational process in Ukraine. As the main research method, the method of qualitative content analysis was used, during which the original sources of philosophical and pedagogical thought of the Enlightenment were analyzed in detail. The results of the study illustrated the matrix of ideas of labor education of enlighteners with its subsequent adaptation to the modern realities of the Ukrainian educational process. The expediency of using the ideas of labor education of enlighteners to improve the quality of the educational process in modern Ukraine is substantiated. It was found out that the ideas of enlighteners have not lost their relevance and have a high potential for solving modern pedagogical problems. On the example of the philosophical and pedagogical works of Johann Basedov, John Locke, and Johann Pestalozzi, it is proved that the model of labor education of enlighteners has a number of special features, such as: a special focus on the child and its development, connection with the surrounding world (naturalness), harmony of pedagogical, family and social elements. These features make it possible to talk about the labor education of enlighteners as an independent pedagogical and philosophical formation, which received not only a theoretical, but also a practical embodiment. It is proved that the labor model of labor education of enlighteners, despite the time gap of more than two centuries, has not lost its relevance and has a significant potential to improve the Ukrainian educational process, which consists in focusing on work as the basis of knowledge acquisition. The conclusions summarize the results of the research and outline the potential vectors of adapting the ideas of labor education of enlighteners to the educational process in Ukraine.
