The article explores the issue of pedagogical design of the reading space as an innovative approach to modernising literary education in the digital age.
The authors argue that the modern reading space extends beyond the traditional book environment. It is emphasised that it functions as an integrated system of printed, electronic, multimedia and communication resources aimed at fostering a sustained interest in artistic texts.
The essence of the concept of 'pedagogical design of the reading space' as a targeted design of conditions, forms, methods and means of organising interaction between students and literary works is determined.
The scientific approaches of Ukrainian researchers regarding educational environments, reading competence, digitalisation of education, motivation to read and modern literature teaching methods are analysed.
It is emphasised that in the digital era, traditional forms of encouraging reading lose their effectiveness, while the importance of interactivity, personalisation, gamification, visualisation and the use of digital platforms increases.
The article outlines the structural components of the reading space: the material-spatial, digital, communicative, emotional-motivational and value-meaningful. Promising means of generating interest in literary texts have been identified: book trailers, literary podcasts, virtual reading clubs, interactive maps of works, digital reader diaries, augmented reality.
It has been proven that a pedagogically designed reading space contributes to the development of reading competence, critical thinking, emotional intelligence and cultural self-identification of students.
