Term formation in sports, football, in particular (illustrated by English terms)

In recent years, the coverage of events in the field of sports, replenishment of methodical support of the educational process and new research and development in the issues of the formation and development of professional sports, as well as the provision of a professional and highly qualified intercultural communication process among all participants of the sports field have become relevant. This determines the relevance of the chosen topic. The purpose of the study is to establish the specifics and methods of translating English terms into Ukrainian, especially in the context of sports vocabulary in general. Analysis and synthesis of theoretical material were used to process the theoretical part of the study. Systematization and classification methods were used to determine different methods of translation from English to Ukrainian. The method of description was used to analyze specific factual material, and the method of quantitative calculations helped to reveal the frequency of use of a certain way of translating sports terminology. A term is a special word or phrase used to accurately express a concept from a specific field of knowledge. In the Great explanatory dictionary of the Ukrainian language, unarticulated (consisting of only one morpheme) and articulated (with two or more morphemes) sports terms are indicated. The translation of sports terminology from English to Ukrainian should be considered from the standpoint of the functional and stylistic purpose of the text in which it is used. Sports terminology is on the border of the terminological field and general literary language in view of its social and cultural significance, and thus depends on the context. Translation of terms from English to Ukrainian in the field of sports is most often done using such methods as interpretation, transliteration, equivalents, tracing, descriptive and mixed methods.
Our research led to a number of key findings, namely: the flexibility and adaptability of language; enrichment of vocabulary, that is, term formation makes a significant contribution to the enrichment of sports vocabulary; football, as an international sport, has an influence on the global sports vocabulary, many football terms are used in sports in general, which makes English a key language in sports communications; terminology allows players, coaches, commentators and fans to better understand and analyze the game; the study of innovative sports terms highlights the emergence of new concepts and tactics in the game, which contributes to its continuous development and attracts the attention of the football community.
Discursive analysis of texts in English in the field of sports can be a further step of the research.
