Modern primary education in Ukraine is focused on implementing the competency-based approach in accordance with the provisions of the New Ukrainian School and the State Standard of Primary Education. The issue of developing social competence in primary school students is becoming especially relevant, which necessitates the search for effective pedagogically grounded ways of its development within the educational process.
The purpose of the study was to identify the prerequisites, substantiate, and develop a program for the formation of social competencies through physical education for primary school students. Materials and Methods. Analysis and generalization of scientific literature, as well as normative and curricular support for physical education of primary school children under the conditions of the New Ukrainian School. Results. The prerequisites were identified, substantiated, and a program for the development of social competencies through physical education for primary school children was designed. The program consists of four interrelated blocks: target, procedural, content, and outcome-oriented. It takes into account the competency-based approach and the implementation of educational, health-promoting, and upbringing objectives of physical education for primary school students. Each block includes educational material consistent with the Concept of the New Ukrainian School and the requirements of physical education. Conclusions. It was established that the main prerequisites for developing a program for the formation of social competencies through physical education for primary school children are socio-pedagogical, нормативно-educational, psychological-age-related, and practical-methodological factors. The developed program includes four interconnected blocks, the content of which ensures the unity of physical and social education of primary school students and makes it possible not only to develop the physical qualities of younger schoolchildren, but also to form indicators of social competencies, including communicative skills, teamwork, self-control, and empathy.
