Purpose. The purpose of the article is to analyze the modern evaluation system of competitions in sports dance (breaking) and to determine its features based on a comparison with other judging approaches.
Methods. The study used analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature, comparative analysis of evaluation approaches in breaking across different competition formats, as well as systematization of judging criteria.
Results. The study found that traditional approaches to judging in breaking are characterized by the absence of a formalized evaluation system and are based on judges’ experience and overall perception of performances. It was determined that stable judging concepts have been formed in practice, including the evaluation of technique, musicality, and originality. It was established that the evaluation system used in the activities of ASETU involves clearly defined criteria and a scoring scale; however, the final result is determined based on the judge’s individual decision. It was also found that the modern Trivium evaluation system is based on a comparative principle of determining the winner and evaluation according to several criteria, which ensures a more structured approach to judging.
Conclusions. It was established that the development of evaluation systems in breaking is moving from non-formalized approaches to more structured models. At the same time, even with clearly defined criteria, the influence of individual judgment remains. Modern evaluation systems contribute to increasing the level of standardization in judging, but require further improvement taking into account the cultural specificity of breaking as an element of hip-hop culture.
