Abstract

Purpose. The study is aimed at determining the specific features of implementing the competency-based approach in the system of physical training of personnel of special purpose units and substantiating its importance for improving the professional readiness of military personnel.

Methods. The study used theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature, systematic analysis of regulatory documents, pedagogical observation, testing of physical fitness, and methods of mathematical statistics. The effectiveness of the program was assessed by analyzing the dynamics of military personnel’s performance in physical fitness tests before and after its implementation (n = 30).

Results. It has been substantiated that the competency-based approach in physical training should be aimed not only at developing individual physical qualities, but also at forming the ability to act under conditions of high-intensity physical loads, time deficit, psycho-emotional stress, and increased risk. The proposed program is based on the principles of gradual progression, practical orientation, and situational modeling. It includes the development of basic, special, and strength endurance, march training, weighted exercises, load carrying and movement, evacuation of a simulated casualty, tactical movement, and team interaction. After the implementation of the program, positive dynamics were recorded in all tests: pull-ups improved by 19.59%, sit-ups from a lying position by 8.69%, 100 m running by 2.95%, 10×10 m shuttle running by 1.99%, and 3000 m running by 6.69%. The obtained changes indicate an increase in strength, strength endurance, speed abilities, agility, and general endurance of the personnel.

Conclusions. The results confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed program and the expediency of using the competency-based approach as a methodological basis for improving the physical training of personnel of special purpose units.
