Abstract

The purpose of the article is to summarise traditional and promising methods of harmonious colour combination and describe their use in the process of training future specialists of professional education. The main research methods are analysis of literature sources, systematisation of information to assess the benefits of harmonious colour combination methods. The results of the research are analyzed examines promising theoretical concepts of color harmony (R. Adams' theory – one of the first theories of harmonious color combination based on a 24-sector color wheel; A. Munsell's color scheme (monochromatic harmony, harmony of related colors of the color wheel, harmony of complementary colors); V. Shugaev's theory, which is based on the color wheel, built on four basic colors – yellow, red, blue, green; E. Brucke's theory (harmony of four types: isochromic, homeochromic, merochromic, poikilochromic); W. Ostwald's color system with four basic colors: yellow, ultramarine blue, red and sea green; B. Teplov's theory (types of harmonies: monochromatic, polar, tricolor, multicolor); V. Kozlov's theory (types of harmonies: monochromatic, related colors, related-contrast colors, complementary colors)). The most common harmonious color combinations are considered with the help of geometric models based on the 12-sector color wheel of J. Itten. The features of harmony (proportionality, consonance and balance), the presence of the main feature – a close connection between individual color tones, with each individual color tone balancing and complementing another are analyzed. The basis for the general harmonious color composition is defined. The main tasks of studying color theory are considered (development of artistic taste and creation of a harmonious color image in compositions; acquisition of practical skills in working with color in the visual arts and design project activities; disclosure of individual psychological characteristics of the color palette of artworks). The conclusions state the methods of harmonious color combination used in the process of training future professional education specialists are determined. Recommendations for the practical application of the acquired knowledge in real projects are provided.
