Abstract

The article analyzes the perspective of Ivan Pylypovych Yushchuk, a renowned master of the Ukrainian language who dedicated his life to linguistics, on the functioning of Ukrainian as the state language. It identifies the factors that establish Ivan Pylypovych Yushchuk as a legend in Ukrainian philology. His textbooks and teaching aids, created for both native speakers and foreigners, are noted for their accessible and clear explanation of complex language rules, making them popular among educators and students. Beyond simplicity, І. Yushchuk emphasizes the multifaceted nature of the Ukrainian language, its aesthetic value, and its capacity to convey emotions and deep meanings. His approach combines traditional and modern methodologies, ensuring effective language learning.

The scholar not only promotes the Ukrainian language but also actively fights against its degradation and russification. He considers knowledge of the state language essential for all Ukrainian citizens and views language as a crucial element in societal consolidation and national identity formation. In his book «Language – the State Weapon,» I. Yushchuk highlights the strategic importance of language for state development and calls for active protection of Ukrainian linguistic culture.

The article characterizes І. Yushchuk's stance on language policy. He has repeatedly criticized the dominance of russian in the educational process and media, pointing out its negative impact on national consciousness. He strongly condemns the lack of control over language legislation compliance, advocating for strict measures against those who ignore language norms. I. Yushchuk sees ignorance of the state language as a direct violation of citizens' rights and calls for decisive actions to ensure its use at all levels of public life.

His publications and interviews reflect his principled and categorical stance on language issues. I. Yushchuk does not tolerate deviations from norms and views language as one of the main pillars of national unity.
