Abstract

The purpose of the article was to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of gamification in the educational process of mathematics in an elementary school in Ukraine. To achieve the goal, the following methods were used: analysis of scientific works, comparison, synthesis and generalization. The results of the study revealed that the concept of "gamification" can be considered in both broad and narrow meanings. In a broad sense, gamification means using a certain game environment for a certain time to learn mathematics. In a narrow sense, gamification involves the use of games as a teaching method in various lessons and their stages. Gamification often includes game elements such as leaderboards, levels, and badges that represent achievements, as well as online quizzes, quests, and challenges. These elements are usually accompanied by story lines and attractive design, which promotes greater involvement of students in the educational process. Modern children, who use digital technologies from an early age, quickly adapt to them and easily master them. In this regard, ready-made online resources are increasingly used in mathematics lessons in elementary school, which contribute to the improvement and systematization of students’ knowledge. Matific, one of the most popular, offers a wide range of interactive math exercises that help students learn concepts through a game format. The platform automatically adapts to each student’s level, offering tasks that match their needs and abilities. According to the standards of the New Ukrainian School, such games as board-printed games, games with various objects and verbal games can also be used in mathematics lessons. Some examples of these games are considered. Gamification can increase students’ interest in the learning process, increase their motivation, improve learning and consolidation of knowledge, and also contribute to achieving better results. However, there are also certain challenges to the implementation of gamification, in particular, the possibility of distracting students and the complexity of lesson planning, as well as the quick habituation to games and the loss of interest in them. The conclusions indicate that the implementation of gamification in the educational process of mathematics in the primary school of Ukraine opens up new opportunities for improving the quality of education and increasing the interest of students. However, the successful implementation of gamification requires a careful approach to the selection of appropriate game methods and technologies, which must be aligned with educational goals and objectives.
