The article explores the experience of developing polycultural competence in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Europe and the USA, with an emphasis on the potential for its adaptation within the Ukrainian educational context. Polycultural competence is defined as a set of skills, knowledge, and abilities that promote intercultural interaction, tolerance development, and integration into a multicultural environment. The study analyzes leading methods and educational practices applied in European and American universities, including intercultural exchange programs, interactive courses, and distance education technologies.
It is identified that the main challenges in Ukraine are the absence of standardized approaches for assessing the level of polycultural competence and the insufficient preparation of educators for working in multicultural classrooms. The article highlights the need for adapting international experience to the national context, specifically by developing new training programs for educators, integrating intercultural communication courses, and implementing academic mobility programs for students.
The article proposes a model for implementing polycultural education that takes into account the Ukrainian context, the needs of students, and global trends. Emphasis is placed on the importance of developing distance and interactive learning, which would provide access to intercultural experiences for students regardless of their place of residence. Additionally, the article offers recommendations for creating a legal framework to support polycultural education in Ukraine and aligning it with international higher education standards.
