Modern education is focused on the development of independent cognitive activity of students and taking into account their individual characteristics, which requires the use of effective pedagogical technologies. The use of network digital technologies, in particular, distance learning and massive open online courses (MOOCs), is one of the promising areas of development of the educational process in higher education in Ukraine. These technologies make it possible to provide access to quality educational resources regardless of the student's place of residence, contribute to the individualization of education and the expansion of opportunities for independent study of the material. Distance learning and MOOC provide flexibility, convenience and accessibility of education that meets modern requirements and trends in the development of the educational system. The purpose of this article is to systematize and analyze current trends in the use of networked digital technologies in higher education, focusing on distance learning and massive open online courses (MOOCs). The methodological approach consists in the analysis of scientific publications and studies, the study of existing practices in this area and the identification of the main trends in the development of digital education. The results of the article include an overview of the evolution of distance learning, analysis of MOOCs, identification of advantages and challenges of using such technologies, as well as examples of successful implementation in Ukraine. The conclusions of the article make it possible to understand the prospects for the further development of digital education and to determine the directions of future research in this area.
