Strategies of Conscious Reading in the Context of Preparation for the NMT in Ukrainian Literature

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the theoretical foundations of comprehension reading strategies, develop effective methods of deep understanding of a literary text, demonstrate their application in the context of studying works of Ukrainian literature, and provide practical recommendations for implementing these strategies in the educational process. The paper considers comprehension skills as the basis for successful passing of the national multi-subject test in Ukrainian literature, which allow not only to master the main content of the program works, but also to understand their deep meaning, to reveal hidden meanings and author's techniques.

The results of the study show that in order to improve the reading competence of students, it is necessary to implement comprehensive strategies at different levels of the educational system. At the school level, it is important to enrich the reading environment, and in the family - to stimulate interest in books and reading. In the context of teaching, methods that develop critical thinking and analytical skills are effective. It is important to teach students strategies for conscious reading, such as: formulating questions to the text independently, visualizing what they have read (memes, comics, infographics); working with cluster tasks; projecting on their own life experience, etc.

Conclusions. Comprehended reading is a prerequisite for high-quality preparation for the NMT in Ukrainian literature. Developing strategies for meaningful reading allows for a deeper understanding of works of art, identifying key ideas, and analyzing the writer's style. Their implementation will contribute to a deeper understanding of literary works; in-depth study of basic theories and literary concepts; use of various teaching methods and formats that stimulate active interaction with the text; engagement in discussions with the teacher, classmates and other readers; independent practice of in-depth reading and analysis of literary texts. The application of these recommendations will help future applicants prepare for the NMT and achieve high results, which will open the way to a successful career.
