Development of lexical competence of students of higher education during the study of the discipline «Ukrainian language for professional direction»

During the study of the discipline «Ukrainian language for professional direction», the development of lexical competence of students of higher education is of great importance. Future professionals must acquire thorough knowledge, practical skills and professional communication skills at the lexical level, master the lexical norms of modern Ukrainian professional speech, and adhere to them. The purpose of the article is to reveal the specifics of the development of lexical competence of students of higher education during the study of the discipline «Ukrainian language for professional direction». Methods used in the work: analysis of scientific literature and pedagogical experience, synthesis. The results of the study demonstrated that in order to develop the lexical competence of students of higher education, it is necessary to apply various forms of dictionary work, aimed at familiarizing future specialists with new words denoting specific objects, signs, actions, abstract concepts, etc. Such new words for students of higher education serve as important landmarks in the cognitive activity of their future profession. It was found that synonyms, homonyms, antonyms, paronyms are important when choosing lexical material for professional communication. Therefore, future specialists need to master the skills of their correct application. It is also important for students of higher education to master the terminology of their chosen profession. After all, knowledge of terms and their meanings is a necessary condition for effective professional communication. The practical significance of the study is that a system of exercises has been developed that will help future specialists develop their lexical competence in professional communication. Conclusions. In order to develop lexical competence among students of higher education, it is necessary to acquaint them with thorough theoretical knowledge of the lexical units of the Ukrainian language, to apply such exercises that would contribute to the development of the necessary skills and professional communication skills at the lexical level. Successfully developed exercises are important for the development and improvement of higher education students' abilities and skills in the correct use of lexical units of the Ukrainian language in professional speech.
