The article is devoted to the problem of multicultural education in higher pedagogical education institutions. The historical development of the concept of multicultural education and its theoretical foundations are analyzed. The purpose of the article is to study the theoretical aspects of multicultural education, to reveal modern approaches, concepts and practices of intercultural education in higher pedagogical education institutions, to determine their significance in the formation of intercultural competence of future teachers. Research methods: analysis and synthesis of scientific and pedagogical literature and regulatory documents on the problem of multicultural education and the formation of intercultural competence, generalization of practical experience. Research results: the article highlights the actual aspects of multicultural education in the context of European integration processes and globalization. The challenges faced by modern educational institutions in the context of cultural diversity are outlined: language barriers, religious and cultural sensitivity, uneven level of student training, cultural stereotypes. The essence of the concepts of multicultural, multicultural and intercultural education is revealed, and their importance for the formation of intercultural competence of future teachers is emphasized. The role of the university environment in fostering tolerance, developing intercultural dialogue skills and adapting educational programs to the needs of a multicultural society is emphasized. Particular attention is paid to interactive teaching methods, project activities, and practical case analysis in preparing teachers to work in multinational classrooms. The article substantiates the need to develop multicultural competence as an important element of the professional training of future specialists in the modern educational space. Conclusions: multicultural education is one of the key components of the modern educational process, which ensures the preparation of a person for life in a multicultural society. Multicultural education contributes not only to the integration of different cultures, but also to the development of critical thinking, empathy and social responsibility necessary for the formation of a harmonious democratic society.
