Abstract

The objective of the study reflected in the article was to explore the process of developing research competence in future energy sector professionals and to define the key aspects of this competence’s development, particularly through the formulation of definitions for relevant terms, structures, and primary elements that enable effective task performance in the energy field.

The article describes the author’s approach to defining terms such as "competence," "competent," "competency," and "competencies." It is determined that competency for energy sector professionals can be considered a specific ability necessary for effective task execution in the energy field. This ability encompasses in-depth and specialized knowledge, unique skills, ways of thinking, and a high degree of responsibility for decision-making and implementation in practice. The structure of competence for energy sector professionals may include four key components: cognitive, affective, volitional, and praxeological.

The work also proposes defining the concept of "research competence" for future professionals in the energy sector as a comprehensive quality of personality that combines knowledge, skills, and abilities for exploring the latest technologies in designing and organizing scientific research in the energy field. Additional elements of research competence were considered, and their content formation was shaped. The main elements of forming research competence in future energy professionals include goal-setting, targeted execution, and reflection.

A review of scientific literature on the issue allowed for the conclusion that, from the perspective of pedagogy, the development of research competence appears as a direction for organizing the educational process in higher education institutions, aimed not only at the end result but also at the process of developing research abilities in higher education seekers in the energy field.

It is proven that the formation of research competence in future energy sector professionals entails the enhancement of research skills such as formulating the purpose and objectives of the research activity; the ability to see alternative solutions to a problem; defining possible ways to solve specific tasks and selecting necessary means; working with information and its critical analysis; formulating hypotheses; planning research activity; conducting experiments; and documenting research results. Therefore, the integration of these skills contributes to the formation of a high level of research competence, which is an important component of professional success in the energy sector.
