Abstract

Document and communication activities are prerequisites for the existence and development of society that contribute to the development of any field. The reform of national education increases the role of scientific professional publications in document studies in the information system support for students.

Independent work is directly closely related to the information content of disciplines. In order to avoid false and unreliable information that students receive through the use of Internet resources, it is necessary to investigate the information support of scientific professional publications on document studies provided by the Scientific and Technical Library of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas.

Information support for students is multifaceted, as it contains lecture notes, methodological instructions and recommendations, workshops, textbooks, manuals and scientific publications.

The main principles of creating information support are outlined, namely: integrity, reliability, control, protection against unauthorized access, unity and flexibility, standardization and unification, adaptability, error minimization, and input-output of information. Many information systems have been created to provide quality information.

Among the higher education institutions that train specialists in the speciality 029 «Information, Library and Archival Studies», only 18% pay attention to the production of scientific professional publications in document studies, which is a relatively small share of all scientific professional publications approved by the order of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine.

Today, the most popular scientific publications in document studies are «Library Science. Documentation. Informology», «Archives and Document Studies Studios», «Book Chamber Bulletin», and «Scientific and Technical Information», which became the research material.

By summarizing the information on the number of publications in the above-mentioned scientific professional publications, there are reasons to state that the most well-off disciplines are undergraduate («Organization of Activities of Information Institutions» (113 publications) and «Information and Analytical Activities» (68)), and the least – «Patent Studies» (13).

For masters, the most significant number of publications is related to the disciplines «PR Technologies» (86) and «International Information Activities» (50), and the smallest – «Text Analytics».

Therefore, all disciplines studied by future information analysts at the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas have information support. However, it is not necessary to analyse the information content of a specific discipline only based on scientific professional publications because it also includes lecture notes, workshops, methodological instructions and recommendations, as well as other educational and scientific literature that both students and teachers can use.

The website of the Scientific and Technical Library of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas contributes to the quality of information support. However, there are barriers to communication between the Department of Records Management and Information Activities and the Scientific and Technical Library, which provides students with only a part of all the educational and methodological literature available at the Department. It is due to the fact that not all methodological materials submitted by the Department are reflected in the electronic catalogue of the Scientific and Technical Library when searching for information resources precisely by the name of the discipline.
