Peculiarities of preparing candidates for the Unified Entrance Examination in a foreign language

Abstract

The purpose of the article was to analyze the peculiarities of the preparation of applicants for higher education in technical specialties to take the Unified Entrance Examination. To achieve the goal, the method of scientific literature analysis, synthesis of the obtained information, comparison of approaches and methods of teaching foreign languages in institutions of higher education and generalization was used. In the course of the research, it was found that the Unified Entrance Examination is a form of entrance test for applicants with a bachelor's degree who wish to continue their studies at the master's degree. This test consists of two parts, which are designed to test reading and language skills. Preparing students of higher education in technical specialties, in particular specialty 271 "Maritime and inland water transport" for the exam, is a difficult task that requires the selection of effective teaching methods and approaches by the teacher. Since the tasks of the Unified Entrance Examination mainly relate to commonly used and academic topics, it is necessary to include topics covering personal, public and educational spheres in foreign language training programs. The most popular platforms and online resources for studying a foreign language by students of higher education in the conditions of distance learning in Ukraine have been analyzed. Interactive boards, educational process management systems, online resources for self-learning a foreign language and various services for diversifying foreign language classes were included in the categories of the most effective platforms and tools for remote learning of foreign languages for students of higher education. It is also important to use interactive foreign language teaching methods to prepare students for the exam, as they are effective tools for improving communication skills and developing listening, reading and writing skills. In addition, candidates should be familiar with all aspects of the exam, including the types of tasks and the number of questions in each part, which will help increase the effectiveness of their preparation. In conclusion, it is worth noting that for the effective preparation of applicants of higher education in technical specialties for the Unified Entrance Examination in a foreign language, it is necessary to implement various interactive teaching methods, modern tools and technologies that will contribute to the formation of all the necessary skills.
