The development of research competence in students is an important condition for shaping conscious and active participants in the educational process, and in the future – competent specialists who possess research skills. The aim of the article is to investigate the effectiveness of forming research skills in high school students through project-based technology in chemistry education. Methods. The research employed theoretical methods (literature review, particularly in psychology-pedagogical literature regarding the problem of forming students’ research skills) and empirical research methods (pedagogical monitoring, pedagogical experiment, statistical analysis and analytical assessment). The research results prove that the use of project-based learning technologies in chemistry increases students’ interest in educational material (development of cognitive interest). In this aspect, the development and deepening of learning activity motives (the motivational component of research skills) are essential. Additionally, students improve their understanding of the structure and content of their own research skills (the cognitive component), enhance their ability to apply them in practice (the substantive component), and develop reflection skills regarding their learning activities (the reflective component). Conclusions. The use of project-based learning technology in chemistry is a crucial element in developing research skills among high school students. It promotes cognitive interest, ensures sustainable motivation for conducting research activities, and facilitates the formation of a set of research skills and their application at all stages of project-based learning. Additionally, it fosters the development of reflective skills as a prerequisite for successfully completing educational projects. The development of these components serves as a foundation for the personal growth of high school students, enhances their research potential, and ultimately aids in professional self-determination and future career realization.
