Integration of civic elements in the study of Ukrainian and foreign languages by students of general secondary and higher education

The publication is devoted to solving the issue of ways to integrate civics elements into the content of academic subjects in a general secondary education institution, and academic disciplines in a higher education institution. Achieving systematic implementation of civics elements in teaching Ukrainian and foreign languages on an integrated basis will enable the development of civic orientation among secondary school students and higher education students. Methods. The goal was achieved by using methods of analysis and synthesis of psychological and pedagogical literature to clarify the basic concepts of citizenship, in the classification of patriotic guidelines; descriptive, which allowed to highlight the mechanisms of articulating democratic values in the socio-humanitarian sciences, and the artistic field. Results. The implementation of interdisciplinary connections makes it possible to acquire knowledge about national and universal values, encourages, using the example of textual samples (Ukrainian or world literature; historical monuments, legal texts, etc.), to understand the concept of democracy, consider mechanisms for implementing civil rights, and comply with civic duties in accordance with the law. Working with texts in the study of Ukrainian and foreign languages makes it possible to observe the semantic relations that determine civic values, guidelines, cultural-historical, and ideological imperatives. In the study of Ukrainian and foreign languages, the integration of civics elements also appeals to the formation of a national-speaking personality who positions himself as a representative of linguistic culture, a conscious citizen, capable of initiating actions to recreate communication (constructive dialogue using the terms of the legal, cultural and historical field) as a citizen with the state. Integrative presentation of information in the study of Ukrainian and foreign languages appeals to the study of the cultural and historical heritage of nations, the development of a respectful attitude towards achievements in the field of the development of democratic values, and the observation of artistically reproduced realizations of these values in works of literature. The integration of civic knowledge also consists in the thematic relation achieved in discussing a work of art from the perspective of civic discourse. The topics proposed for consideration in the analysis of a work of art determine the consideration of the national values of society, universal human values; the content of laws and their role in the life of society; the processes of making public decisions determined by public unanimity; the model of a citizen reproduced in the artistic plot.The verbalization of civic values determines educational interaction at the level of civic identification and civic duty as a component of patriotic culture.
