Abstract

In the current context of higher education reform, reviewing the content and structure of educational programs in accordance with society's and employers' needs is becoming particularly relevant.  Purpose. This paper aims to analyze how the modernization of higher education curricula influences the quality of professional training amid contemporary labor market demands, ongoing societal changes, and the intensification of integration processes within the education sector.
Methods.
The study employs a theoretical synthesis of scholarly sources, a comparative analysis of academic curricula, and the consolidation of practical experiences drawn from prominent universities in Ukraine and internationally.
Results. The findings indicate that the renewal of educational content—particularly via the adoption of a competency-based framework, the incorporation of digital innovations, the enhancement of interdisciplinary links, and the reinforcement of applied learning—plays a pivotal role in fostering learners' professional adaptability, competitiveness, and readiness for career self-actualization. Emphasis is placed on the importance of flexible learning pathways and greater academic independence in higher education institutions, which enable more individualized and student-centered educational experiences. The research underscores the value of collaboration among universities, industry stakeholders, and public authorities in reforming educational content. Additionally, the study underlines the necessity of bridging theoretical knowledge with practical training, implementing robust quality assurance mechanisms, engaging students in curriculum evaluation, and promoting the continuous professional development of academic staff. The influence of international collaboration and academic mobility initiatives is also recognized as instrumental in integrating global best practices into the national educational framework. Conclusions. Curriculum modernization is identified as a critical driver for aligning the higher education system with the evolving socio-economic landscape. It supports the cultivation of a new cohort of specialists equipped to thrive in a digitally-driven, globalized, and competency-focused environment. Future inquiries should prioritize the development of measurable indicators for assessing the impact of modernized programs and the identification of effective models for transforming academic environments within the paradigm of sustainable development.
