Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the physical condition of student youth who have expressed a desire to engage in strength training exercises. To achieve the above goal, we used the following methods: analysis of scientific literature, pedagogical testing, anthropometry, somatometry, physiometry and methods of mathematical statistics. The study found that in view of the problems of physical education of students, a personality-oriented approach is of particular importance, which declares the possibility of a significant impact on the problem of forming students' desire for physical self-improvement and a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, there is a noticeable interest of students in strength training exercises. Scientists have found that athletic training helps to improve health, physical fitness, increases performance in the chosen sport, increases flexibility, strengthens the heart and intensifies metabolism. There are cases of using strength training exercises for rehabilitation after muscle and joint injuries and for the prevention of diseases such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, arthritis, etc. It has been proven that athletic activities help reduce stress and tension in everyday life, promote a positive self-image, instill discipline and increase motivation, which is transferred to all other areas of life. This trend encourages the creation of gyms at universities and the inclusion of athletic training in the process of physical education of students. A clear differentiation of the load, a large selection of means and methods of strength training will allow physical education teachers to take into account the individual psychophysiological characteristics of the student. Instead, the results of the conducted experiment, described in the presented article, indicate that the majority of students have from “low” to “average” level of physical fitness; a significant number of boys have asthenoid type of body structure, and girls - pycnoid; the vast majority of students have “low”, “below average” and “average” level of somatic health. This state of affairs requires a more differentiated, individual approach to students during athleticism classes in the process of physical education.
