Abstract

The article presents an in-depth theoretical analysis of current trends and future prospects of the commercialization of chess in the digital media space. The research focuses on the interplay between the traditional intellectual game and the dynamics of digital communication, which generates new forms of public visibility, content consumption, and monetization. The conceptual perspective proposed in the article views chess not merely as a competitive discipline but as a multifaceted element of digital media culture, combining sport, aesthetics, streaming formats, narrative content, and educational potential.

The author considers the digitalization of chess as a civilizational shift rather than a purely technical process, highlighting a fundamental transformation in the game's social roles and communicative strategies. Commercialization is interpreted as an evolutionarily driven process that aligns economic rationale with cultural representation. It is demonstrated that the digital infrastructure of modern chess encompasses specialized platforms for playing and analysis, media channels such as YouTube and Twitch, algorithmic recommendation systems, public chess personalities, educational gamification modules, and informal communication spaces.

Special attention is paid to the audiovisual paradigm of chess broadcasting, where visual design, emotional commentary, and streamer personalization turn each game into a performative and culturally resonant event. The article emphasizes the strategic potential of chess as a tool of cultural diplomacy, especially in the context of russia’s military aggression, where symbolic representation and soft power are integral to Ukraine’s international positioning and humanitarian resilience.

It is argued that the further commercialization of chess requires a careful balance between market mechanisms and the preservation of the game’s intellectual and ethical core. The article presents an analytical model of the digital chess renaissance and outlines future research directions at the intersection of digital sports pedagogy, cultural policy, and the creative economy.
