Abstract

Objective of the article is to carry out a comprehensive historiographical analysis of scholarly works devoted to the formation and development of higher art education institutions in Ukraine (late 20th – first quarter of the 21st century) in order to identify the main stages of research on the problem, leading scientific approaches, and unresolved aspects. Methods. The methodological framework of the study includes historical-genetic, historical-comparative, historical-typological, and problem-chronological methods, as well as general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, systematization, and generalization, which ensured a holistic historiographical understanding of the issue. Results. The historiographical analysis revealed the stage-based nature of scholarly interpretation of the formation and development of higher art education institutions in Ukraine (late 20th – first quarter of the 21st century). It was found that the evolution of research was determined by socio-political and cultural-educational transformations. Conclusions. A retrospective analysis of the source base demonstrated that artistic and cultural processes in Ukraine were in a close dialectical relationship with global and national educational transformations. This led to the formation of new spiritual and value orientations and played a determining role in the genesis of art education. The development of the national artistic school has a clearly defined stage character: the first stage (early 20th century – 1991) – the period of institutional formation and methodological search under complex sociocultural and political determinants; the second stage (from 1991 – to the present) – the phase of systemic modernization and the construction of a sovereign educational model oriented toward integration into the European space, renewal of the content constants of education, and harmonization with pan-European educational standards.
