Wordwall as the platform for teaching professionally oriented vocabulary while preparing for the pubilc speech in foreign language

Abstract

Abstract. In the article the core attention is given to the teaching potential of such online platforms as wordwall and tedtalks in the process of teaching professionally oriented lexics to the future specialists of the security and defense sector. The scientific approaches to the usage of the tedtalks video materials in higher education establishments were analyzed and it was identified that the majority of the researchers are focused on the video materials’ role in the development of the communicative skills and soft skills development. At the same time, the problem of forming the readiness of future military specialists for public speech in foreign language is still not researched thoroughly and properly. The essential point is covering how reasonable it is to use the tedtalks platform as the source for authentic professionally oriented content and the wordwall platform as the tool of interactive practice of lexics. Besides, the author suggests the range of video materials topic search, relevant to the professional interests of the military sector students (warfare, geopolitics, modern technologies, cybersecurity, the psychology of communication) On the basis of the identified professional lexics the set of lexical exercises was created due to the principles of the communicative approach (presentation, practice, production).The given system of interactive exercises is adapted to the conditions of the wartime and corresponds to the blended learning. The results received support and prove the idea that a combined usage of two researched online platforms is effective for forming foreign language competence and development of public speaking skills.
