Abstract

In the process of studying the discipline «Ukrainian language for professional direction», students of higher education should acquire thorough theoretical knowledge of spelling, learn the spelling norms of the Ukrainian language, and improve their spelling skills. The problem of developing the spelling competence of future specialists is urgent, because knowing how to spell words correctly is a necessary condition for professional written communication. The purpose of the article is to reveal the peculiarities of the development of spelling competence of students of higher education in the process of teaching the discipline «Ukrainian language for professional direction». Methods used in the work: analysis of scientific literature and pedagogical experience, synthesis. The results of the study showed that in order to develop the spelling competence of students of higher education, it is necessary to acquaint them with the necessary theoretical knowledge about Ukrainian orthography, orthographic norms of the Ukrainian language, the rules of Ukrainian spelling, the correct spelling of all words in professional texts, and the competent spelling of the terms of the chosen specialty. It was found that the knowledge of the spelling rules of the Ukrainian language contributes to the development and improvement of the abilities and skills of future specialists to create written texts, oriented to professional specifics, without mistakes. After all, it is important for students of higher education to master the perfect skills and abilities of competently writing the texts of documents, characteristic of their future profession. It was determined that spelling literacy is a necessary condition for professional written communication. The practical significance of the study is that a system of exercises has been developed that help students of higher education develop spelling skills and help overcome spelling mistakes when writing professional texts. Conclusions. In order to develop the orthographic competence of students of higher education, it is necessary to acquaint them with thorough theoretical knowledge of Ukrainian orthography, orthographic norms of the Ukrainian language, and the rules of Ukrainian spelling. It is important to develop in them the ability to correctly write all words in professional texts. Special attention should be paid to mastering the correct spelling of the terms of the chosen profession. Well-designed exercises play an important role in improving the skills of correct spelling of words in professional texts in students of higher education.
