The article highlights the importance of national-patriotic education, determined by the current processes of fostering European democratic values and freedoms in Ukraine, the establishment of a sovereign independent state, the development of civil society, and resistance to Russian aggression. This type of education is considered one of the key directions of state and societal efforts aimed at fostering national consciousness based on public-state ideals.
In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, educators face the task of developing and implementing measures aimed at strengthening the patriotic education of the younger generation. The goal of such actions is to contribute to the formation of a new generation of Ukrainians who are patriotically minded and oriented toward European values. The education of civic consciousness and the formation of a value system among schoolchildren should be based on examples of heroism demonstrated by the Ukrainian people throughout their historical journey. Particular attention should be paid to historical events and figures that played key roles in the formation of the Ukrainian state.
The article also emphasizes the importance of creating a pantheon of Heroes based on examples of courage and self-sacrifice by contemporaries. In light of Ukraine's European integration course, there arises a necessity to reconsider "World History" through the lens of "European History." An important task is to showcase the European experience of state-building, including periods of lost independence among major European nations.
