Abstract

In modern conditions, distance education is becoming an integral component of the contemporary higher education system due to the widespread availability of digital resources and the integration of innovative technologies. The aim of this article is to investigate the effectiveness of distance education in enhancing the quality of learning among higher education students in Ukraine. Methods. In the process of research, the method of critical analysis of scientific literature was used to evaluate existing approaches to the problem under study. The method of scientific abstraction contributed to the formulation of conclusions and generalization of the obtained results. Results. The research findings indicate that the implementation of distance education contributes to a significant expansion of access to educational resources and an improvement in students’ academic performance. The use of interactive platforms and communication tools positively influences the development of analytical skills and teamwork abilities. The integration of artificial intelligence technologies, such as ChatGPT, enables the automation of routine tasks and the provision of individualized feedback, thereby increasing the effectiveness of learning. It was also found that the application of virtual reality contributes to the development of practical skills and personalized learning. However, the analysis revealed that significant challenges remain, including inadequate technical infrastructure, low levels of digital literacy among both teachers and students, the lack of standardized methodologies for organizing distance learning, and socio-psychological barriers. Conclusions. Distance education holds considerable potential for enhancing the quality of higher education in Ukraine by fostering the development of critical thinking, independence, and professional competencies among learners. The integration of innovative technologies and the use of modern platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Moodle) positively affect academic success and student motivation. However, in order to achieve theseoutcomes, it is necessary to address a number of technical, organizational, and socio-psychological challenges.
