Abstract

Given globalization, technological progress and transformational processes in Ukrainian education, the development of language competence is one of the priority goals of education. The article examines modern methods of teaching foreign languages for special purposes, in particular the communicative approach. Adapting this approach to modern conditions contributes to the formation of an inclusive and dynamic environment for language acquisition in a globalized context. The purpose of the study is to characterize methodological approaches to teaching foreign languages for special purposes in the digital environment. The study used the methods of analysis and synthesis with the implementation of a literature review. The results demonstrate that learning a foreign language for special purposes contributes to the development of general competencies, but often leaves communication skills unattended. Communicative activity involves the realization of linguistic communication competence in a particular area, covering both reception and production of messages in accordance with didactic tasks. Communicative competence goes beyond mere proficiency in a literary language and appears as a set of skills in which linguistic and socio-cultural knowledge play an important role. It has been found that teaching foreign languages for special purposes requires not only the acquisition of verbal material, but also the development of para- and non-verbal communication, mastering the principles of contextual placement, mutual influence, language etiquette and ritualization of communication. The paper identifies four main dimensions of the formation of communicative competence of learners of a foreign language for special purposes: grammatical, sociolinguistic, discursive and strategic. The conclusions state that although the communicative approach is not a new methodology, its main characteristics - development of communication skills, learner-centeredness, use of authentic materials, and increased motivation - ensure its relevance. The combination of the communicative approach with innovative technologies is effective today and meets modern standards of teaching foreign languages for special purposes.
