Abstract

Biathlon is a unique sport that combines the aerobic demands of cross-country skiing with the precision requirements of shooting, making it an effective means of physical training for high school students. The origins of biathlon are linked to the military and hunting practices of northern peoples, while its development as a sports discipline began in the 19th century. Physical training in biathlon is based on the development of endurance, strength, coordination, and speed. Aerobic indicators, such as maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂max), are critical for maintaining a stable race pace, while anaerobic endurance is essential for accelerations and key moments of competition. Biathlon also requires high muscular endurance, particularly in the legs, arms, and core, which ensure efficient skiing movement and stable positioning during shooting. Psychological preparation is equally important, as athletes must quickly stabilize their breathing and heart rate before shooting, requiring well-developed self-control and concentration. Visualization methods, mindfulness techniques, and relaxation exercises help biathletes achieve high accuracy even under physical fatigue. The training of students for biathlon includes several stages: general physical conditioning, improvement of skiing technique and shooting skills, as well as the development of psychological resilience. Cardiovascular training, coordination and balance exercises, specialized shooting drills, and simulation training contribute to the formation of necessary skills. The availability of material and technical resources, such as ski equipment, training rifles, and shooting practice areas, is also crucial. Thus, biathlon serves as a comprehensive tool for physical training, developing not only endurance and strength but also psychological resilience, self-control, and precision. Its integration into the educational process of high school students promotes a healthy lifestyle, discipline, and resistance to physical and mental stress.
