Abstract

Military affairs are constantly evolving, which is especially facilitated by hostilities that continue from time to time in all corners of the world. The Russian-Ukrainian war and the armed conflict in Syria are no exception. The main features of battles that take place in the conditions of modern war are that they are fought mainly in urban areas, which requires military personnel to know the principles of assault and defense of such positions. Therefore, the central issue now is the quality of military training, which allows not only to successfully complete the objectives of the operation, but also to maintain the unit's further combat capability for subsequent battles. The purpose of the article is to improve fire training methods in urban combat based on modern military doctrines. Methods. The study used general scientific methods (monitoring, abstraction and abstract-logical analysis) to collect and systematize information, highlight key concepts and formulate research conclusions. A special method of military forecasting was used to assess the effectiveness of the improved fire training methodology. The information base of the study was the works of both domestic and foreign scientists who studied various aspects of the issue of military training and the features of conducting combat operations by army units in urban areas. The results of the study indicate the important role of fire training for conducting defensive and assault operations in urban areas and the increasing importance of anti-drone means for maintaining the combat capability of the unit. The latter became one of the important proposed principles for improving fire training methods, along with the requirement to take into account the principle of concentration on positions. The conclusions of the study demonstrate that the issues of modernization of military doctrines and various components of military training do not lose their relevance, despite the radical changes in approaches to warfare in the twenty-first century. It was found that modern military experience indicates the need to increase the mobility of military units and avoid firefights (except for sniper actions) during urban battles. The latter destroys the harmful myth of the perception of urban areas exclusively as fields of positional warfare, which is waged mainly with small arms.
