Abstract: The publication is devoted to revealing the issue of applying a text-centric approach in the study of language disciplines by higher education students. The purpose of the article is to reveal the content and description of the implementation of a text-centric approach in the study of language units by higher education students. The implementation of the goal involved the following tasks: to analyze the scientific literature in order to clarify the content of the text-centric approach; to reveal the features of the implementation of the text-centric approach in the study of language disciplines by higher education students. Methods. The goal was achieved using methods of analysis and synthesis of pedagogical research on the essence of the text-centric approach in language teaching, language disciplines in professional training; the descriptive method was applied in the formulation of partially search and educational and research tasks, problems and contradictions brought up for discussion; speech material recommended for observation based on textual support. Results. The text was considered from the following positions, such as: 1. Academic text, which contains scientific (industry) information sufficient to develop key competencies; acquisition of knowledge that will enable the successful solution of professionally oriented tasks. The academic text generally corresponds to the information content of the textbook recommended in the curriculum, while at the same time, in order to overcome the contradiction that lies in the assimilation of program material by applicants within the framework of didactically processed information, expression of educational inquiries, as well as a motivational position regarding alternative points of view in the philological field. The introduction of problematic issues into the academic text will contribute to the formation of an idea of the object, concept, phenomenon under consideration, based on the polysemanticity of the thoughts of scientists. The procedure for filling the academic text with content involves the use of modern information technologies, which enables quick access to the resource (academic texts); raising problematic issues for discussion, performing partial search and educational and research tasks within the language discipline; integrative presentation of educational material, which allows the application of algorithms of observations and analysis used in other fields and related language disciplines. 2. Texts of different styles (text selected for observation of linguistic material, application of algorithms for analyzing linguistic units, industry terms, supraphrasal units, etc.). The text for the study is presented as an object of linguistic consideration, the selection of the text is constantly updated in accordance with the problem posed, contains information about the cultural and historical heritage, reflects the art of the word (the best examples that demonstrate the aesthetics of artistic description through a linguistic resource). Observation of the text is aimed at solving problematic tasks, and in the content of work on projects, higher education students form their own bank of examples that demonstrate a particular linguistic phenomenon, their own comments on a particular aspect of the disclosure of the issue.Downloads
